Here are links to forms you need to complete no later than two weeks before the first day of Street Skills.

  • PARTICIPATION CONTRACT (for Parent and Child to sign and upload)

  • INDOOR URBAN CYCLING CLASS ATTENDANCE

  • ONLINE EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST

  • MECHANIC SAFETY INSPECTION FORM

It’s crucial that you have a bicycle in good working condition.  If a rider comes to a class or camp with an inadequate bicycle, they will not be able to participate.   You’ll need to have your camper’s bike inspected by a certified bicycle mechanic from Cycle City or Westside Joe’s no later than two weeks prior to the first day of class or camp and no earlier than 6 weeks before the first day. They need the camper for fit on the initial visit.

    1. Drop in to with your camper, their helmet and bike for a free quick assessment of fit and mechanic needs. If the bike is too small you’ll know right away and avoid paying for work on a bike that may not pass as a correct fit. If you need a new bike you can purchase one from any bike shop you like. All bike shops in Alameda sell quality bikes. Avoid buying from places that don’t have bike mechanics if you need to have adjustments made, like Target, Costco, Big 5 or Amazon.

Make sure you have required equipment from the Online Equipment checklist above. If you need a tube, water bottle holder, or approved lock, you can pick one up at the shop. If you have your own, great!

    2. If the bike needs parts or work, the shop will let you know how long they will need to keep the bike . You can leave it to get parts replaced or work done and make an appointment when to pick it up. OR if your rider needs the bike to get to school, make an appointment when you can bring it back to get worked on for quick turn around. Do not expect the bike shop staff to drop all their work and take care of everything in one visit the day before camp starts. They are doing us a favor to do these fit and safety checks. Please do not pressure them to sign a form for a bike that doesn’t meet my requirements. These are my requirements, not the bike shops.

    3. I have asked the shops not to sign off on the fit if the camper is not there at the initial visit. Expect them to raise the seat higher than the camper likes it. I will coach all the kids on the first day on safely stepping down off the seat when they stop so they don’t fall over. If you want to lower back before camp, be sure to raise it back up when they come to camp.
